The post apocalyptic world is a cake walk for Viggo Mortensen. This rough and tough actor fits any action star part perfectly, and The Road is no exception. Complete with post apocalyptic facial hair, Mortensen takes on the world’s epic change as the earth’s eco-system turns on it’s end. The human race has degraded to the mere animals they evolved from. There are no rules anymore.
Like most disaster movies, you revel in watching what happens to the world, while you stay safe in your currently environment. You stay warm as the world covers in ice, or the air conditioning kicks in as lava spews all over your TV screen. The Road is no different, your thirst for world destruction is sated, and your heart goes out to those that have to survive in it.
The Road is well adapted from the novel by Cormac McCarthy, but also offers so much more. While the book leaves you wondering what happens to the characters before this event, the movie will indulge you in so much more, helping you to connect closer to the characters.
The acting is superb, Robert Duvall as the old man nails the part, and Guy Pearce delivers the perfect experience to the movie, all in all, this movie will leave you comfortably happy, in both acting and overall appeal. Never over done, never just a caricature of the adaptation of the book, the movie makes you feel as if you were reading the book straight out, which will always be a delight to the literary fans.
If you’re ready for an action with plenty of drama, get ready for The Road. Also, be ready to pray that this movie doesn’t become a reality, and earth stays rather comfortable with us inhabiting it.
